Missing Cell Phone

Memorial Day weekend we went to Boise with my family. Some time on the trip, we lost Tyler's cell phone. After we got back we turned the car and house upsidedown trying to find it, but no luck. After a few days of searching we called our cell phone company. We were wanting to cancel , but of course, we ended up getting sucked into another contract, although we did get a really great deal on it. Our new phones are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Today, I came home to find Tyler asleep on the couch and Jackson dumping out his diaper bag. And then I realized he was chewing on Tyler's cell phone. I can't believe Jackson was the one to find it! Next time somethings missing, I will send Jackson on the job first. He can find anything if it's something he wants to chew on!This weekend we arrived at church perpared to teach our lesson, and there wasn't a single car in the parking lot. Apparently it was Stake Conference. We were out of town last week and somehow missed the announcement. We came home and decided we should at least take pictures, since we were all dressed up anyway.

Jackson's Lastest Developments

Here are some of Jackson's newest skills: 1. Giving high fives. 2. Clicking his tongue. At first I thought he was just snapping his mouth, but we realized he actually puts his tongue on the top of his mouth and then snaps it down so that it makes the clicking sound. We clapped the first few times he did it, so now he does it all day anytime someone looks at him. 3. Climbing up stairs. 4. His first zoo trip, and he was suprisingly interested in the animals. The penguins were his favorite. He watched them swim back and forth. The lion made him a little nervous. 5. He also recently discovered a love for animal crackers, and really anything else he can talk his dad into letting him try. 6. Swimming. This weekend we went to Boise and we got him a cute little swimsuit and a baby floater tube to sit in. He discovered that he loves splashing the water with his hands, but hates having water splashed in his face. It was pretty funny to watch him splash as hard as he could, but also be very confused about all the water flying in his face.

Enjoying the Weather

We've been spending a lot of time outside the last few weeks, and we have discovered that Jackson hates grass. He doesn't cry or protest if we set him on the grass. He just sits on his bum, lifts his arms up in the air, and then holds his feet up so that none of his skin is touching the grass. I'm pretty sure I could leave him on a blanket in the middle of our lawn and he would stay put all day. Jackson is becoming qutie the little terror climbing all over everything. He tries to balance standing up on his own, but hasn't braved his first steps yet, thank goodness. This morning he climbed up the stairs though. I was dreading the day he figured that out. I guess it's time for a baby gate.

His face is becoming more and more grown up. He doesn't look like a baby anymore. It's fun to watch him grow, but I already miss the cuddly, tiny baby Jackson.

Graduation

Tyler graduated this weekend with his bachelor's degree in microbiology. I am very proud of him, but we still have a long road ahead of us with dental school and possibly oral surgery. We are excited for what lies ahead of us. Jackson thought the ceremony was too long though.

Good thing we had Grandma and Whitney there to help me keep Jackson entertained. It lasted 3 hours! (although we didn't stay the entire time)

Updates

I haven't updated my blog forever because our internet has been on the fritz. Here a bunch of pictures/updates on random things that have happened lately. It just wouldn't be a blog without pictures of my baby being messy in his highchair. I read this book on feeding your child. It was very hippie-ish and it talked about the importance of letting babies feed themselves sometimes, so I've been trying that with Jackson. Very messy. I can't really remember why Jackson is sitting in a box, but it's kind of a cute picture. Maybe I could use something like this to contain him, now that he is getting so mobile. One night I was looking at Jackson's hair. It was messed up because of his nap, and it kind of looked like a mullet. I decided it was time for his first haircut. Here is the before picture. He looks scared.

When Jackson was born, I bought this white teddy bear to do size comparison pictures with. Each month (sort of) I take a picture of him with the bear. When I first bought the bear, it was a little bit larger than him. Here's the latest. He is getting so big! I'll have to post all of the pictures once the first year is over.

Also, Jackson is getting very good at climbing. He can pull himself up to standing against the couch, wall, bath tub, kitchen drawer, or the side of his crib. He is becomming a little terror!

Tyler got new motorcycle gear recently. Of course, he insisted on having Jackson try some of it on. It's actually kind of cute. I know I can't change the fact that Jackson will eventually be a crazy dirtbike rider like his daddy, so I'm trying to just embrace it.

This is how Jackson sleeps right now. He looks like a stink bug. I used to try to move him or roll him over, but he just goes right back. He crams his head into the corner with his face against the wall, and sticks his bum in the air.

Moab: Jackson was there too

We had to keep him all bundled up like a kangaroo pouch when it got cold, but he didn't really mind.

Jackson did really good with his first time staying in a hotel. I think he actually kind of enjoyed it.

This is Canyonlands. The view was amazing. Just to give you some perspective, the line you see on the terrain down below is a road. It was really far down, and the cliff we are laying on goes straight down to the bottom. We just barely peaked our eyes over the edge.

Moab

For Spring Break we went to Moab with my parents and sisters. It was such a fun trip! I didn't realize how beautiful Moab was. We spent time visiting Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park and I would highly recommend both. There are some amazing places to see, even if you don't ride dirtbikes! The terrain down there is incredible.

This was the view from the top of the mountain that we rode to on a trail called Porcupine Rim. You can kind of tell from the picture, but we are sitting on the edge of a huge cliff! It made me a little nervous, but it was so pretty up there.

And this is what Jackson did most of the time. We got some cute pictures of him actually awake when we were hiking, so I'll post those when I get them from my mom. We hiked up in the arches at Arches National Park. It was really amazing.

It snowed the first day we were there, but we enjoyed the sites anyway.

New Hair Style

I love pictures where babies accidentally make a face that would mean so much on an adult. He looks like a little stud in this one. It's like he's saying "Hey baby... what's up" Lately we have been trying to decide what to do with his hair. I'm not sure if we should cut it or let it grow. I always thought it was stupid when parents gave their kids little punk hairdos, but I actually think he looks pretty cute with a faux-hawk.

And of course, Daddy wanted matching hair. (it didn't work out so well for him)

Bouncy Baby Boyd

Jackson got a Jonny Jumper from Grandma and Grandpa Boyd for Christmas. He is definately good at bouncing!

New Car

This week we bought a "new" car. We traded in my Honda Accord for a much newer, lower mile car, but I still really miss my Honda. That was a great car... *sigh* Anyway, the new car is beautiful too. Tyler decided we needed something lower miles before we started dental school. It's a 2008 Toyota Camry with 5,000 miles. (Tyler wants me to tell people its a 2009. It is exactly the same, just one year older) It's the really basic LE model without any fancy features, which is perfect for us, and we got a great deal on it. I know everyone says that, but we really did get an awesome deal for such a new car. Our savings account is a lot smaller now, but I suppose its worth it. I'm still getting used to it but Tyler is in love. I'm just glad that the stress of car shopping is over. Jackson wants to drive it. For anyone who can't tell, we are sitting in our garage. Of course I would never let Jackson in the front seat while we were driving.

I was going to take a picture of the car, but it's dark and cold outside. Although really if you want to see what it looks like, just take a drive around the block. I swear every third car out there right now is a Camry.

Baby Kisses

I have been trying to teach Jackson how to give kisses. I show him how it's done, and then he tries to copy me.He is still getting it figured out. It's a little slobbery.

One of Those Days...

This morning I was feeling so proud of myself for getting Jackson all ready for his day. I got him dressed up in the cutest little outfit. A brown and blue striped shirt, perfectly matching baby blue pants, and cute little brown and blue socks that matched the shirt. How coordinated! Then, he had an inevitable poopy explosion, the same way he does every day, so I changed his pants to some that didn't really match and were a little too small because I was behind on laundry. Then I realized that one of his socks was missing. I couldn't find it. But I was running late, and lucky me, there was another sock (who had also lost its twin) sitting on the entertainment center. Perfect, right? So I threw it on. On my way out the door, I noticed what his perfect little outfit had evolved into, so I took a picture. Despite my efforts, he ended up looking like a silly little mismatched Boyd anyway.

Growing Up Quickly

I am going to try to be better about actually writing on our blog. It's so much easier to just post pictures, and they are probably more fun to look at, but every once in a while I need to write something too. Friday when I picked up Jackson from the daycare, I had one of those moments where he all of the sudden seemed older. I dropped him off in the morning, and then I picked him up 8 hours later and he looked older. It makes me really sad. I hate daycare! I love our daycare, but just daycare in general... I hate it. Yesterday, Jackson got to spend the entire day with Mommy. Tyler went snowmobiling with the boys, so we got to hang out at home and play together all day. It was pretty fun. I can't believe how mobile Jackson is becoming. I left the room for less than a minute, and I came back and he had rolled all of the way across the room and was opening the cabinets on our entertainment center. I didn't know he could open things! He also started drinking out of sippy cup, and we discovered he likes squash. I really enjoyed spending a whole day learning things like this about him. I wish I could spend every day doing that. Anyway, life is good at the Boyd house!
